(Today, I’m filling in for Sean because he’s short a piece…)
Do you ever do that? Take something God has given you, something you know you don’t deserve and then just go and brag about it. It’s not that we are trying to share what God is doing in our lives, it’s like we are saying: “Check out how awesome I am, look what I got!”
I did that recently. After a long struggle with God and what He was doing in my life, He blessed me in a way I never expected, and definitely didn’t deserve. It was like a precious gift that God gently (after I needed to be hit in the face) gave me. Through that, God gave me three separate opportunities to minister through His blessing, and then I blew it.
I was having lunch with a friend of mine, and these are the words that came out of my mouth: “Well, I’ll tell you this…” and then I proceeded to brag like an idiot for something God gave me and I didn’t even deserve.
Why do we do that? We take things that God has given us and then say it’s all about us. I do this a lot. If you’ve spent any considerable amount time around me (and most likely the only people reading this I’ve forced to read this, so you have) you know I don’t really shy away from telling basically how awesome I really am (I mean come on, we all know it’s true). Ummm, well, moving on…
God said He would provide for us, and God does provide for us. So we should thank him for what he has given us and give Him the glory. It reminds me of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 and how they lied to give themselves credit and look like they were glorifying God. But God said “I pity foo’. BOOM Sucka’, you dead” (at least in my head, also he was the original Mr. T catch phrase inventor).
All that to be said, we should give God glory in everything we receive. Because if we’re honest with ourselves, we have nothing to brag about (unless you look like me… Uh-oh. My mistake. Listen, I‘m working on it).
So, has there ever been something in your life that you haven’t given God the proper glory for?
